Creating an inclusive digital platform offering opportunities for African youth in underserved communities (both rural and urban settings) is core to Wadata’s mission. Therefore, Wadata seeks to minimise entry barriers in offering entry-to-advanced level job-ready skills that can empower Data Champs to start earning a dignified and decent income while they actively contribute their growing data, digital and green skills to tackling local-to-global challenges from where they live. Thus, the minimum requirement for a Data Champ to join Wadata as:

  1. Aged between 18 - 35 years
  2. Ability to quickly learn new skills and adapt? 
  3. Very passionate about continuously learning/upskilling, building careers, and creating social impact for their community through data, digital or green skills (sustainable practices to tackling climate issues).
  4. Literate (can read and write) in their Local Dialect, Swahili, and/or English
  5. Good communicator (can speak and translate fluently) in their Local Dialect, Swahili, and/or English)
  6. Active citizen who understands their local community context (Geographical area, issues, and language)
  7. Owns a smart device (phone, tablet or laptop)
  8. A minimum KCSE certification (or its equivalent) will be an added advantage
